Description

CAPITOLINE HILL AND JEWISH DISTRICT
Also known as Campidoglio, the Capitoline Hill is one of the seven hills of Rome, today famous both for the role it had in Roman times and for an important intervention carried out by Michelangelo, who made the hill one of the most beautiful squares in Italy. From the Capitoline Hill, you’ll have the chance to enjoy spectacular views of the Roman Forum. We will continue our walk in the Jewish Quarter: from the Synagogue to the Piazza delle Cinque Scole, from the Theater of Marcellus and the Portico of Octavia to the Turtle Fountain in Piazza Mattei. The itinerary will end on the Tiber Island, crossing the Tiber and enjoying a panoramic view of the area. This will be a journey through history and memory, to discover curiosities and legends. We will end our tour with a tasting of typical local specialities, such as artichokes “alla giudia”, the famous tart with sour cherry jam, baked goods and much more.

ANCIENT ROME
Our route will start from Via Nazionale, to cross the transformations of the Imperial Forums over the centuries, reconstructing history, architecture and curiosities. We will relive the grandeur of the ancient Roman remains, describing the main monuments included in the external route of Via dei Fori Imperiali. Built over a century and a half, they were the centre of politics, religion, and economics in the ancient Roman Empire. They consist of the Forum of Caesar, the Forum of Augustus, the Temple of Peace, the Forum of Nerva, and the Forum of Trajan. The visit will end in the Colosseum valley.

RIONE MONTI
In the footsteps of the work created by Mario Monicelli “Near the Colosseum there is Monti”, we will travel together on a journey through the history of one of the oldest districts of our city, still preserved in places from the chaos of the city, a scenario of history and Rome. From the famous square of the Madonna dei Monti, we will go in the direction of Piazza della Suburra through the alleys of the district. We will walk along the ancient stretch of the Roman Argiletum, up to the Augustan border of the Suburra, continuing towards the house of the Knights of Rhodes and the Palace of the famous Marquis Onofrio del Grillo. Going up to Via Panisperna, we will admire the terrace of Villa Aldobrandini, then head under the famous tower of the Militia until we reach Via dei Serpenti, the heart of the neighbourhood.
