Rome can be easily reached thanks to its geographical position, big airports, high-speed trains and motorways.

How to reach Rome by plane

Rome has two main airports:

  • The main hub Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino) served by the major flight companies as well as low-cost ones, is located about 26 km from the city centre.

Fiumicino: how to reach the city centre

By public transportation

The easiest way to reach the city is to take the shuttle-train Leonardo Express (direct service without calling at other stations) that takes 32 minutes to get to Termini Station and leaves every half hour from 6.23 a.m. to 11.23p.m. Every 15 minutes during the time slots with higher traffic.

Termini Station is connected to the underground: Metro A (red line) & B (line blue) and to numerous buses for all directions.

at ticket offices, self-service machines, counters near platforms manned by Trenitalia. Children under 12 travel free if accompanied by an adult.

If you need to reach the congress venue:

  • Take the “Leonardo Express” train. Drop off at Termini station.
  • Take underground line B to Colosseo
  • Walk 5 min (400metres)

By taxi

Taxis are parked at the exits of both the domestic and international arrival terminals.

Transfer from Fiumicino airport to the city is a 40min drive   and costs about 50 Euros.

Rome taxis are white, and they all have a ‘taxi’ sign on the top of the car as well as a sign on the doors with the coat of arms of the city of Rome. For all destinations, the price will be indicated by the taximeter, to which the baggage fee must be added.

A chauffeur-driven car service, under the NCC sign, is also available just outside the airport. The vehicles are usually either blue or grey and fares vary depending on destination. 

By car

Take the Rome-Fiumicino motorway (direction: Rome) until the turning off onto the Grande Raccordo Anulare (the Rome Ring Road) and choose the exit that goes to your final destination. Time of the journey to the Grande Raccordo Anulare: about 30 minutes.

Rent a car

Car rental desks are located inside the airport: Office Tower 2. They are easily reachable via the pedestrian tunnels which connect the Terminal buildings to the Multilevel Parking structure, follow the signs located in the Arrivals area.

Ciampino: How to reach the city centre

By public transportation

From Ciampino you can reach Rome’s Termini Railway Station by bus.

The journey takes around 40 minutes. You can choose among the following:

  • ATAC BUS + METRO B (blue line)
    Bus 720 leaving from stall 4 at Ciampino airport connects it with Metro B (blue line) Laurentina station where you can take the Metro B (blue line) to Termini Railway Station or the centre of the city. Departures every 20 minutes
  • TERRAVISION BUS DIRECTLY TO TERMINI STATION

  • ATRAL BUS + METRO A (red line)
    This bus leaving from Ciampino reaches Metro A (red line) Anagnina

If you need to reach the Congress venue:

  • Take the Terravision bus (45 min). Drop off at Termini station.
  • Take underground line B to Colosseo
  • Walk 5 min (400 metres)

How to reach Rome by train

Rome has two important stations. The main station, Termini Station (Piazza dei Cinquecento) and Tiburtina Station (Piazza della Stazione Tiburtina).

How to reach the city centre

Termini Station, in the heart of Rome, is the interchange station between the two underground lines: Metro A (red line) and Metro B (blue line) and is connected to numerous buses leaving from the square in front of the main entrance and going in all directions.

Tiburtina Station is the second main station of Rome, in the east area of the city. Metro B (blue line) connects it to different areas of the city.

In some areas of the city centre (ZTL) access and free circulation is limited to:

  • only-electric vehicles (duly registered)
  • taxis and NCC (chauffer driven cars)
  • motorbikes and mopeds

Electronic gates operate:

  • 30 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday (except on public holidays)
  • 2 pm to 6 pm, on Saturdays (except on public holidays)
